Portal's Private Follow-Along Tour is designed for guests who brought their own capable Jeep and want to experience Moab's famous terrain with professional guidance from beginning to end. You remain behind the wheel of your vehicle while a Portal guide leads the route in a separate trail vehicle, communicates with you throughout the tour, and helps you approach each section with greater confidence.
Before entering the trail, your guide reviews the route, vehicle setup, communication process, basic slickrock techniques, and what to expect during climbs, descents, ledges, and off-camber sections. On the trail, you receive calm, practical instruction tailored to your experience level. When an obstacle requires extra attention, your guide can demonstrate the line, position the vehicle, and provide spotting so you understand where to place the tires and how to control speed and momentum.
Routes are selected around your vehicle, driver experience, weather, time available, and desired level of challenge. Options may include introductory terrain on Fins & Things, the classic sandstone fins of Hell's Revenge, panoramic mesa routes such as Sevenmile Rim or Gold Bar Rim, or more advanced adventures for properly equipped vehicles and experienced drivers.
The private format allows the day to move at your pace. There is no pressure to keep up with a large convoy, and time can be used for instruction, photographs, scenic overlooks, or repeating a technique until it feels comfortable. Bypasses and alternate routes may be used when appropriate, while more technical lines are considered only when vehicle capability, conditions, and driver skill align.
This experience is ideal for Jeep owners who want more than navigation. It provides local trail knowledge, practical off-road coaching, and the reassurance of an experienced guide while still giving you the satisfaction of driving your own vehicle across Moab's world-famous terrain.
